GS-7 Claims Specialist (CS) in the Binghamton, Gloversville, Greece, Hudson, Niagara Falls, Queensbury, Schenectady, Syracuse and Troy, New York Social Security Field Offices
A CS GS-7 is a public contact position that requires good written and oral communication, good interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills, and good comprehension. A CS interviews applicants for benefits, determines a claimant’s initial eligibility for Social Security benefits, analyzes evidence that will help make a determination, obtains, clarifies, and verifies data used to analyze claims and make benefit decisions.
A CS GS-7 starting salary is $41,365 and the minimum requirements are listed on the attached “2019 SSA Claims Specialist” document. In addition, the minimum qualification requirements include passing the Meet-and-Deal Panel Interview.
GS-5 Customer Service Representatives (CSR) in the Albany, Utica and Watertown, New York Social Security Field Offices
A CSR GS-5 is a public contact position that requires good written and oral communication, good interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills, and good comprehension. A CSR assists the public by answering a wide variety of questions, conducts interviews, investigates situations, and resolves issues. They make determinations that affect a claimant’s ongoing eligibility for Social Security benefits, analyze claimant’s benefit payment history, and obtains information.
A CSR GS-5 starting salary is $33,394 and the minimum requirements are listed on the attached “2019 SSA Customer Service Representative” document. In addition, the minimum qualification requirements include passing the Meet-and-Deal Panel Interview.
Create your account and profile on USAJOBS.gov, the Federal Government’s official job site, and indicate your interest in various federal agencies and locations. When a public vacancy opens in an area in which you have indicated interest, you will receive notification and you can apply through USAJOBS.gov. Sometimes SSA is given special hiring authority which allows us to hire veterans who qualify under the Veterans Recruitment Appointment (VRA) Authority. In addition to meeting the eligibility criteria described in the Special Appointing Authorities for Veterans section of the Veterans' Services Guide, the minimum qualification requirements includes passing a Meet-and-Deal panel interview. Veterans who do not qualify under the VRA Authority are encouraged to create an account on USAJOBS.gov, the Federal Government’s Official Jobs Site, for the most current and up to date job openings in the Social Security Administration.
