HOW CAN YOU PREPARE?

Create your account and profile on USAJOBS.gov, the Federal Government’s official job site, and indicate your interest in various federal agencies and locations. When a public vacancy opens in an area in which you have indicated interest, you will receive notification and you can apply through USAJOBS.gov. Review the attached “USAJOBS Federal Careers” document for more instructions.

INFORMATION FOR VETERANS

Sometimes SSA is given special hiring authority which allows us to hire veterans who qualify under the Veterans Recruitment Appointment (VRA) Authority. In addition to meeting the eligibility criteria described in the Special Appointing Authorities for Veterans section of the Veterans' Services Guide, the minimum qualification requirements includes passing a Meet-and-Deal panel interview. Veterans who do not qualify under the VRA Authority are encouraged to create an account on USAJOBS.gov, the Federal Government’s Official Jobs Site, for the most current and up to date job openings in the Social Security Administration.
The Claims Specialist (CS) GS-7 and Customer Service Representatives (CSR) GS-5 requirements are listed above. In addition, the minimum qualification requirements include passing the Meet-and-Deal Panel Interview.

If a veteran qualifies under the VRA and is interested in employment with Social Security, they may submit their resume, all college transcripts and DD-214 Member Copy 4 in one of three ways:
1. Email to: ny.ssa.upstate@ssa.gov
2. Ground mail to: Social Security Administration, Suite 119, 11A Clinton Ave., Albany, NY 12207, Attn: VRA
3. Fax to: (518) 431-4099
Please feel free to submit resume, college transcripts and DD-214 Member Copy-4 at any time. When we find out we have special hiring authority to hire under the VRA, things move very fast. If we already have your information on file and we know you qualify under the VRA, then we can call you immediately and invite you to interview as soon as we find out we are hiring.
